The festival is one of the largest in Bulgaria. Kuker’s games are emblematic of the city and invariably connect with the Feast of the Crusades, with the routines of banishing the evil forces, welcoming the spring and waking up the earth.
The Yambol City Park in just 4 days becomes Kukergrad, which gathers kukeri, sourvakari and bulwarks from the country and the world.
In 2020, the 21st edition of the Kukerland Carnival Festival organized by the municipality of Yambol will be held. This is the first ever countrywide Masquerade Games festival and have been held uninterrupted since 2000. At its core are the typical Kukeri traditions characterized by its specificity and variety of costumes. Over the years, the Kukerland Festival has become one of the most spectacular and big events in the country’s cultural calendar, attracting tens of thousands of participants and audiences from Bulgaria and abroad.
