The most natural place for the International Festival of Comedy Performance is the town of Gabrovo – the world’s capital of humor. Its pilot edition was in 1998, and Nina and Zueka became its godparents with their famous performance of Gogol’s play The Overcoat. The interest of the audience is enormous – it gives the creators confidence that it is necessary to do such an event for the city. The best comedy shows from Bulgaria, Russia, Ukraine, Romania, Switzerland, Serbia and Macedonia had taken place here.
The festival has no competitive character, but from 2011 the audience chooses the “funniest spectacle”, and from 2013 also the “funniest actor”. Parallel to the festival there is a contest for a new Bulgarian comedy.
The festival was assisted by the Municipality of Gabrovo, the Ministry of Culture through the winning projects, and local businessmen.
The statue of “the funniest spectacle” is an object of art made by a local sculptor, called Adrian Novakov.
