The Golden Kuker International Festival started its activity in October 2010 in Sofia and was the first festival of the cartoon films in Bulgaria after 2000. It is organized every spring in May and is one of the most attractive cultural events in Bulgaria!
The festival is a bridge between professionals from all over the world and succeeds in showing the best of Bulgarian and world animation, striving to stimulate the creative activities of animators.
GOLDEN KUKER FESTIVAL plays a key role in the whole animation industry as it is organized by animators who produce cartoons themselves. It is also interesting for public of different generations. The festival has shown a high level of professional performance, huge international presence with plenty of works of talented people from all over the world. During the festival and throughout the year, animators and the audience have the opportunity to attend professional master classes led by world-known directors and animators, art exhibitions, seminars, round tables, presentations and impressive events related to cartoon art. Each year the festival also focuses on protection of environment. Beside the Sofia event a traveling festival is organized in the country.
The event is one of the most attractive cultural events in Bulgaria and supports young animators and animation students.
The organizers are animation studio ANIMART and Bulgarian Association of Independent Animation Artists Proiko Proikov. Any cartoon created after 1 January 2015 is eligible to participate. The animated films taking part in the festival will be shown indoors and outdoors.
