“Lavender Festival 2015” will be held for the second time. The festival promotes the leading position of Bulgaria in the production of lavender oil. It aims also to raise awareness on the importance of lavender as agricultural and industrial culture. The event provides an opportunity for full discussion between farmers and owners of refineries.
Chirpan is the place where in 1907, for the first time lavender was planted. In the last ten years Dobrodza became the second home on the crop. Nowadays over 300 farmers handled lavender plantations of over 12,000 acres. Since 2012 Bulgaria was the first country in the production of lavender oil in the world. Each year, it provides 120 tons of essential oil, while France produces only 30 tons. Bulgaria has a favorable climate and good soil so the quality of Bulgarian lavender oil is one of the best in the World. Bulgarian lavender oil is in high demand in the USA, Japan, Germany, France and the Middle East.
Another goal of the festival is to attract the young people who are interested in the farming. This event will give them confidence to grow lavender.
In 2014, more than 1000 guests and residents of Chirpan region visited the “Lavender Festival”.
In 2016, the organizers provide the Lavender Festival to be held in three days. The program will content the traditional workshops, lavender workshop and children’s competitions, sporting events and authentic lavender bazaar. The new items will be an open stage for young talents, folklore block – dancing and singing, art and photo exhibitions, carnival, contest “The Queen of Lavender”, jazz and rock concerts.
